Easy for beginner if you have patience. I am new to astrophotography, but this is the reason I got this Celestron NexStar 8 se. My very first telescope. It is bigger than I thought, but surprisingly light weight. I took me about hour and half to put it together and align (with lots of patience and YouTube videos). I took this picture with solar filter, t-ring and adapter for My Canon that I have purchased separately here at Amazon. Almost perfect I bought this telescope to upgrade from my Meade ETX-125EC — a 5 inch Maksutov-Cassegrain reflector. I had the Meade Autostar handheld controller as well, so I was used to using a GOTO feature. I found that the Meade with Autostar was difficult to align properly though, so I wanted something easier. The point to beware of is that they kept the entry price low by going cheap on the eyepiece lenses and making it battery driven. The lens it comes with as well as those in the accessory kit have a very short eye relief distance meaning you need to literally jam the thing right against your eyeball to get a clean focus, something altogether…
