Buyer beware The lens I received was not certified refurbished, it was imported (AKA grey market). Nikon refurbished lenses have a small dot (indentation) before and after the serial number and come with a Nikon USA 90 day warranty card. The lens worked fine, but Nikon USA will not service grey market lenses, which was a deal breaker for me. Thanks Amazon for an easy return process.
Great lens (and price) for general photography My lens arrived in great condition (looks and feels brand new), and works as advertised. I appreciate being able to save money buying refurbished. It’s a great general purpose lens, and is usually the one attached to my Nikon D5600. I like that it has physical switches for VR (vibration reduction) and AF/MF, (autofocus/manual focus) and has a metal lens mount. If I had to be super picky, I’d say it can’t produce “professional” level sharp shots or allow for stunning bokeh–but the 18-140mm definitely gets the job done for general photography. The zoom control has some resistance, but it isn’t “sticky” or hard to rotate like some other brands–it’s a “good” resistance. The focus ring action is smooth as well–and overall, the build quality feels great. It’s a quiet lens–I’ve used it for several months, and can’t remember ever “hearing” it.If you buy this, I also recommend buying the HB-32 lens hood–it’s an inexpensive and useful…
Factory refurbished & no regrets I have 3 lenses for my D5100. 1 of which was the 18-55 kit lense. I was using the kit lense for the every day lense for those quick photo op moments where you need to have a lense on the camera around the house and other similar venues. I’ve taken some stunning photos with that particular lenses and it should not be counted as junk from the factory. However, the lenses auto focus just wasn’t fast or hard a difficult time focusing; and as a result, plenty of missed, golden opportunities. Plus there were times in which I needed a little more further reach.I’ve done some homework and compared another Nikkor lense that fit the bill. The other was an 18-70 (I think) with equally good reviews. I chose the 18-140 based on 3 specifications namely the extra reach and the metal mounting plate. So I saved a bit more and waited patiently. Then theres a decent price gap between new and refurbished. At the time of my purchase there was a little more than a $100 difference. So I saved…
