The Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM Zoom Lens is an incredibly versatile, lightweight, and compact lens designed specifically for digital SLR cameras with APS-C size sensors. The lens has a fast f/2.8 maximum aperture throughout the entire zoom range. It features a construction of 17 elements in 13 groups with glass that corrects for flare, ghosting and all types of aberrations. It produces high contrast and sharp images throughout the zoom range even at its maximum aperture. Sigma’s OS (Optical Stabilization) feature allows you to shoot at shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower than would otherwise be possible. This means your images will look sharper, even when shooting without a tripod in low existing light or at maximum range with a flash. This lens is also equipped with Sigma’s Hyper-Sonic Motor (HSM) which provides for fast and quiet autofocusing. The Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 is ideal for many photo opportunities particularly landscapes and portraits, but with its wide focal range and a close focusing distance down to 11″ (28cm) you can capture images with unique perspectives. GET THIS LENS!! By far, one of the best lenses I’ve used! I have owned the 18-55mm Nikkor kit lens, 17-50mm f2.8 Tamron, and Nikkor 35mm f1.8 prime, but this Sigma 17-50mm blow all of these prior lenses out of the water in terms of detail and sharpness. I also own a sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 lens and even that one is tack sharp.I understand that some folks get bad copies of lenses, but that’s true for all manufacturers. Excellent lens, very sharp, Deal-Expo sent a perfect package precisely as advertised. Great lens, better reviewed on the Sigma amazon page for this same lens. I agree with all the things said over there, very sharp lens, excellent upgrade to the kit lens, great build quality. Feels heavy in a great way, smooth zoom ring, no autofocus issues at all (haven’t even had to microadjust the autofocus as yet, about 2 weeks with it). Got great results! I wanted a lens that would give me sharper wider angle images on my crop sensor dslr and this was exactly what I had hoped for. Great lens!
