Has advantages and disadvantages Iâve been a massive remote speedlights user since the year 2008. So I had very high expectations from this flash. I’ve used it on 10 weddings and here’s my 2 cents.Pros1. The head swivels all sides and can even tilt backward a little. It’s very helpful.2. Falls into godox/flashpoint ecosystem. Can control, be controlled, etc.3. As powerful as any other hi-class spedlight, bus less expensive.4. The charger is tiny, and the flash has a dedicated powerful li-ion battery.5. Has a built-in adjustable modeling light which is helpful.6. The remote control design is so much easier than in a previous model, although I had problems with it (see below)Cons1, Itâs stupid but it is. The control dial has a bottom click. Which I pressed with my FOREHEAD like 15 times during the 3-hour reception shoot.On camera mode, the accidental forehead click changes the mode to stroboscope (RPT) which I honestly think no one actually uses…
Stuck/fused to my camera hotshoe. Wont come off. This was a great flash and worked for the first wedding gig with it. This weekend on the second wedding with the v1, it is stuck onto my camera’s hot shoe and won’t come off. I also use a Nikon sb700, two godox ab600, and other off brand flashes that this has never happened. It was a great flash until it malfunctioned after just one gig.EDIT 8/24/19I finally got the flash off by using a knife blade. It is the kicking pin that got trapped/stuck to the hotshoe. Also the base plate of the speedlight was cracked. On another note, I brought this problem to two camera stores and neither of them would touch it because it’s not a nikon/cannon etc. I also tried calling and emailing godox customer service, and they are non existant. I returned this item and received a refund through Amazon. I am going to buy it one more time. Purely on the merit of how well it performed with my other godox products. Fantastic strobe great value and performance I am amazed at how good this Godox V1 flash is. I replaced my Nikon SB 900 because I wanted a strobe that I could incorporate with my Flashpoint AD600 pro and AD 360 lights. It is so simple to control all these lights with the r2 controller. The output is consistent and the color is good. The Li-ion battery recycles last and lasts a long time. The TTL function has to be dialed down -.7 or -1 stops for best out put, but the quality of light is very nice. The AK accessory kit for the flash is a must get and also very adffordable.
