You get what you pay for. This is an inexpensive lens and it shows in the photos. First, understand that Nikon makes two lines of lenses: A professional line, and a consumer line. The consumer lenses are (very generally speaking) a huge step down in image quality. And before you start flaming me, I know that there are some exceptions, but this lens is certainly not one of them. It is a consumer (shall I say “budget”?) lens on par with some inexpensive third party brands I started out with 30 years ago. On the other hand, there’s the 70-200 f/2.8 VR (a Pro line…
Excelent VR and sharp Excellent quality and sharp lens. Is it as good as an expensive prime lens? No, but it has a versatile zoom range and a max f/5.6 aperture throughout the entire range, which with today’s higher ISO capable cameras is just fine for this hobbyist. VR system is superb and allows hand holding if needed, but I prefer to put it on a gimbal head for longer setups.
