Convinced me not to do it myself The primary worth of this book and it’s companiions (by the same author) was to convince me that unless I really want to sink my life and time into camera repair, I should let the experts do it. If you feel you want to dig into that “simple” Nikon lens and clean out some dust or remove oil from the diaphram, read this book to ward off the temptation. On the other hand, if you do want to get serious, as a collector or as a very involved hobbiest, this book (and, again, it’s companions)…
MacGuyver Repairs for Your Nikon What a disappointment! This back cover of this book claims that it is a “step-by-step illustrated guide to the maintenance and restoration of collectible Nikon cameras and lenses manufactured from 1951-1985.” It’s not. The book is poorly organized, the systems that are covered are incomplete, and the book fails to recognize some very important classic cameras of the Nikon manual-focus era.As an example: I bought this book as a reference to assist in the repair of a simple film…
Nikon repair, but not for everyone A very good book if you are able to “fill in the blanks” on some of the steps–“Do this” without telling you how to do it. I’ve used it successfully to repair a Nikon F2, a Nikon FM2n and am getting ready to tackle a couple of Nikkormats. There was a lot of information in the book I couldn’t use (Nikkorex and Nikonos), but it was there if anyone else can use it. A good resource, but definitely not a step by step guide.
