Did not come with Solid State Drive Knew I wasn’t getting a top of the line laptop, but couldn’t beat the specs for the price. All components were as promised except the hard drive. The drive that came with the HP Elitebook 8470p was a 320GB IDE drive. Yep, welcome to 1999. I don’t care if you have 4,000 cores on a 200GHz CPU with a Petabyte of RAM, if it’s sporting a dinosaur HD you’re going to be waiting a while at boot and ANY read/writes to the drive. My boot time as shipped was 2min and 37 seconds. From double click to application opening was an easy 2-3 second delay. I IMMEDIATELY went a got an SSD and cloned the OS and files from old drive to new SSD. Boot time is now 6-7 seconds and applications open almost immediately after clicking. I have to give credit to Amazon though. Even though they are limited in assistance when it’s a 3rd party seller, I was still able to get a partial credit back to my account.
Choose your seller wisely Mine came from Blazing Prices and had the SSD hard drive. I think its the only way it survived just being thrown in a box and shipped by UPS. See picture for what I found when I opened up the package. Seller just allowed it to slam around with no padding at all. Computer seems to work, albeit with some scratches from being put in too large of a package with nothing to keep the power supply and batter from slamming into the computer. I’ve only booted it up up and it seems to work. DVD drive seems to work. But only one speaker works. I’m not sure if has two or one, but I’m only getting sound out of one of the two speaker looking ports. It would make sense that by getting bashed around the other speaker quit. The SSD is nice, but it doesn’t make the machine blazingly fast. It was formerly a windows 7 machine. Overall, the machine seems OK, but the seller is not.
Great computer. From reading the reviews before I purchased this computer, It seems that buying a refurbished item is a crap shoot. Well, I hit the jackpot. The machine itself looks brand new. Not a single blemish or sign of wear. Even the trackpad which has pretty groves in it looked like it had never been touched and the fan had no duct on it.I did have to update Windows but that is to be expected since new updates are constantly being put out by Microsoft. With 8GB of ram and the SSD drive it is lightening fast. It literally takes seconds from pushing the power button to being ready to login. At this price, I expected it to be older than it is. I went to the HP website and put in the serial number and it showed the machine as being. Made in 2015.One note. I did have an issue creating the Windows 10 Recovery Disk. It would fail after about 15 minutes. However, after installing all the updates available, I was able to get it created. I used an old 8GB…
