A DSLR in your pocket? Well no, but it’s pretty darn close. I am a professional lifestyle, portrait, and wedding photographer with huge, expensive full-frame Nikon DSLRs and lenses. I love them. And I love to have them on me pretty much constantly since once the photography bug bites, you see beautiful photos everywhere. But it’s just plain annoying to carry around a camera bag all the time, especially when traveling for leisure. Thus I went on the search for an alternative camera that would be on me 100% of the time, no matter where I go, and would provide a full manual feature set and great image quality. I’ve owned, rented, or used lots of camera systems, but they always had interchangeable lenses, which I specifically did not want for this purpose. After looking at the Fuji X100T, Sony RX100III and IV, Leicas, and even the Sony RX1 Mk2 (in my wildest, most expensive dreams), I found this little camera at the bottom of the price bracket and decided to give it a try. Here are some thoughts on this camera before…
GREAT camera…but had to return it? I bought the original LX00 and I loved that little camera. That said…I eventually sold it as I bought a GM5 for my small camera needs. In any case the LX100 stood out as one of my all time favorite cameras despite the fact I sold mine way back. Fast forward to the LX100II. Yikes, it sure took a long time for Panasonic to update this great LITTLE camera. I currently own a few Fuji cameras plus a Sony A7RIII so I wanted a small, pretty much pocket-able camera with REALLY good IQ and a sharp lens. This LX100II seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. Having owned the original I can attest to the fact at least to my eyes, Jpegs now look FANTASTIC, though I shoot raw along side the jpegs,…Totally different color science than the original…Very pleasing..now great skin tones. The touch screen is a nice upgrade and very useful..plus the focusing seems way better than before. I may as well stop now..as I love this little camera. Here’s why I had to return it. I read over and…
Great camera, but a few comprimises Let me start by saying I absolutely love this camera but that isnât to say that there are not some compromises. There are several places on the internet that you can get an in-depth review, download sample files, etc⦠so I am not going to do that. If you want the executive summary this camera packs a ton of capability into a modestly sized package. Below I am going to touch on a few highlights and a few places that I think could stand to be improved. The four star review is entirely because of the things that I think could be improved.Iâll start with the things that could stand to be improved, in no particular order. The included flash is more than a bit disappointing, I appreciate that Panasonic feels they need to include something but it is really pretty useless. Instead I prefer to use the Olympus FL-LM3 (which works just fine on the LX100II) because it both rotates and tilts, I would prefer to pay extra for something like this than use the included flash.1:1…
