Great if you have the extra $$$$ This is a great light weight camera that packs a punch. The lenses are the expensive part of any camera and can really make the difference in your photos. The camera performs well in low light and is fast enough for basic sports photography. The downside is how expensive the lenses are for photos at a distance. Since there are not a whole lot of 3rd party lenses for this you get stuck with $1000+ repalcements for 300mm lenses and they just go up from there. If you need 200mm lenses there are a couple options but they sit around $300-600 depending on what you are looking for.I purchased this camera to replace my Nikon DSLR sports shooter and if I was still primarily shooting sports I probably would not have made the jump to mirror-less due to no direct comparison to lens availability. Really do your research and if you have the money to replace your existing hardware or buy expensive adapters to use them on the mirror-less body then go for it and try not to look back…
This camera is fantastic. Don’t let reviews or ideas of an “older … Purchased this after using an a6000 (also great) for almost two years. I had invested in quality full frame glass to use with that camera anticipating a jump to full frame down the road. This camera is fantastic. Don’t let reviews or ideas of an “older camera” guide you away from this. The full frame sensor is excellent. I’ve been using it for about a month now and I appreciate this camera more and more after every use. For the price, The a7 is one of the best purchases you can make if you’re into mirrorless and want to venture into full frame territory. I only do stills, so video is not something I can speak for with this camera.
